MSM Health Drink - A Great Way to Get Your Daily Dose of Sulphur

What is MSM?

MSM has become very popular recently through the success of Earl Mindell's book "The MSM Miracle" and through word of mouth as many people find relief from arthritis and inflammation. MSM stands for Methyl Sulfonyl Methane which sounds like an awful chemical concoction but it is actually a pure natural nutritional form of sulphur found in eggs, grains, legumes and animal proteins. The MSM found in these foods is easily destroyed through cooking and processing. Studies suggest that the concentration of MSM in the body decreases with age, suggesting the need for supplementation.

Why 'The MSM Miracle'?

MSM makes cells more permeable, enabling the body to flush out undesirable foreign particles. MSM relieves inflammation and pain by helping to equalise cell pressure. MSM also has very important roles in the body because of its close relationship with proteins. Proteins are required for growth and repair, the formation of healthy connective tissues, joint function, proper enzyme activity, hormone balance, and the proper immune system functioning. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. MSM acts as a transport molecule for elemental sulphur, which is required for amino acids.

  • MSM is useful for relieving inflammation and joint pain.
  • MSM helps soften tissue, including scar tissue and improves the healing of burns.
  • MSM aids digestion by aiding bile products, improves many lung conditions and relieves some allergies.
  • MSM is important for diabetics. It is an important component in insulin production. Insulin is a protein hormone that has metabolic and growth promoting effect; stimulating glucose and amino acid uptake and protein, fat and glycogen synthesis.
  • MSM can help improve circulation.
  • MSM helps strengthen hair and nails.

Toxicity is very low; what the body does not use will be flushed out within a 12 hour period.

The MSM Health Drink

We have been fortunate to hear many stories of immediate relief from arthritis and inflammation from our customers when using MSM, but a few complained about its bitter taste. One of our customers found that taking MSM with lemon juice overcame this problem. The recipe below actually is very tasty - somewhat like a sports drink. So there are no more excuses in our household for not taking MSM! MSM works optimally when taken with vitamin C (calcium ascorbate), which is also featured in this recipe.

  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of MSM
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Vitamin C
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1/8 teaspoon Celtic sea salt

Combine all the ingredients in a glass. Fill with filtered alkaline water. Stir well.

Other uses of MSM

MSM can be applied topically to the skin by blending it with a moisturiser. You can use MSM in this way to help heal old scar tissues, maintain the appearance of young looking skin, heal sunburn and rashes, and relieve psoriasis. We recommend mixing MSM with Miessence Intensive Body Cream. Miessence is a beautiful range of natural products, certified organic to food quality standard, with a high content of organic aloe vera leaf juice (also very beneficial to the skin).

Dissolve MSM in water, gargle before swallowing to reduce plaque build-up on your teeth.

Note: Some people experience mild digestive upset when consuming MSM.
